Principal Concept and UI Artist

Role Summary
As a Principal Concept Artist you will be responsible for creating and iterating on ideas, through hands-on creation of concept pieces, to drive the direction of a project or concept presentation that aligns with the artistic vision of the Art Director.
As a Principal UI artist you may work on existing or build and design new interfaces to work within games. These will enhance and be sympathetic to our games’ aesthetics as well as be functionally sound.
You will form a core part of the leadership team within your department, bringing your experience and knowledge to support and advise both our Art Director and the Leads of various Art-facing teams.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities
Concept art for projects:
- Work closely with the Art Director and Production Artists to create high quality concept art, across a range of game-specific assets
- Support the Art Director to maintain a game’s visual style. Contribute towards the art bible of a project, help establish project orientated art fundamentals
- Research, collate and present reference image boards to the team. Contribute to visual design documents
UI art for projects:
- Work closely with Art Direction, Design and Tech to create on-brand, consistent visual design throughout the game
- UI research and exploration: produce assets, concepts, mock-ups, previs and prototypes and present your findings to the team as needed
- Maintain the vision of the style while creating visual and functional systems for UI
- Create 2D supporting graphics such as icons which communicate key information and help illustrate the game's interface
- Deliver clarity and visual quality within technological constraints
- Work with Production to set project level UI goals and schedule expectations
Technical skillset
- 3D creation tools (we use Maya and Blender) and workflows specifically within a videogame environment.
- A portfolio of original concept art pieces that have been made to fit a style guide
- A portfolio showcasing UI examples or design process
- Professional knowledge of graphics packages. Highly proficient with the core software in the Adobe creative suite.
- Proficient with Miro or Figma. Experience using productivity tools to track work (we use Atlassian Suite)
- Game engine experience as it relates to Concept and UI: Unreal or Unity (Unreal preferred)
Who we're looking for
- A seasoned mentor with ~6 years of relevant work experience, preferably including time spent in game development.
- Someone who is confident researching, collating and presenting references, and being a subject matter expert for a team.
- Someone with graphic design and storyboarding skills who can demonstrate an eye for light, value and composition.
- Someone who knows how to mentor teammates and maintain a team's creative momentum through a project.
- A strong source of knowledge when it comes to concept art workflow and processes.
- Someone who has worked with interfaces designed in a range of styles.
